1. Who you are agreeing with
Bug Reporter is operated by Ecropolis LLC ("we", "us") as part of the Compass
platform, from Texas, United States. These terms cover your use of the Bug Reporter widget,
the service at bugs.compass.st, and any project key we issue you.
If you install the widget on a site, you are agreeing to these terms on behalf of whoever owns that site.
2. What the service is
Bug Reporter is a JavaScript widget you add to a website, plus a service that receives what it sends. When someone files a report, the widget collects technical information about their browser and session and sends it to us along with their description. We store it and make it available to you.
The full list of what is collected is in the Privacy Policy and is shown to the person filing the report before they send it.
3. Access and early-access status
This is early access, and it is not self-serve. We issue project keys by hand, one at a time. There is no sign-up, no billing, and no contractual service level. We may change how the service works, or stop offering it, with reasonable notice.
A project key identifies your project. It sits in your page's HTML, so it is public by design: it authenticates nothing and can only ever create reports. It cannot read reports, your project's configuration, or anything else. Keep it in your page; there is no need to keep it secret, and no harm if it is seen.
We restrict each key to the origins you tell us about, and apply rate limits. If a key is abused we may disable the project.
4. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for the sites you install the widget on, and for the people who use it. In particular:
- Tell your testers. If you deploy the widget somewhere the public can reach it, your own privacy notice needs to say that filing a report sends technical information to us. We give the person a disclosure in the panel, but the relationship with your users is yours.
- Don't put it where it collects more than you intend. The widget captures console output and network request URLs. If your application puts personal data, tokens or secrets into console messages or query strings, those can end up in a report. Field values are never captured, but URLs and log lines are.
- Get whatever consent your jurisdiction requires before installing it on a site used by people other than your own staff.
5. Acceptable use
Don't use the service to collect information from people who have not been told about it, to gather data unrelated to testing software you are responsible for, or to send us content that is unlawful. Don't attempt to read another project's reports, exceed the rate limits deliberately, or use the service to attack anyone.
6. Data and retention
Reports are deleted 90 days after they are filed, along with any screenshots attached to them. Reports can be pinned to keep them longer. You can ask us to delete a project and everything in it at any time, and we will.
Between us, the reports are yours. We use them to run the service and nothing else, and we do not sell them or use them to train anything. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
7. Availability
The service runs on Cloudflare's network. We do not promise any level of uptime and there is no SLA. The widget is written to fail safely: if our service is unreachable, the report cannot be sent, but the page it is installed on keeps working.
8. Liability
The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost data, or lost profits arising from your use of the service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. Changes and ending the service
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above, and we will tell the people we have issued keys to. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
You can stop at any time by removing the script tag. Ask us and we will delete your project and its reports.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
